Secure file transfer

Encrypted P2P File Transfer for Windows

Peer-to-peer file transfer is attractive because two computers can exchange data directly instead of uploading a file to cloud storage first. In practice, firewalls, NAT, carrier networks, and restrictive routers can prevent a direct path, so a useful secure-transfer app also needs a safe fallback.

Direct transfer versus cloud storage

With direct transfer, file contents move from one endpoint to the other without first becoming a stored cloud-drive object. That can reduce unnecessary copies and make large transfers more practical when both machines can reach each other.

Why P2P does not always connect

Two computers may both be online and still be unable to accept a direct inbound connection. Home routers, workplace firewalls, CGNAT, hotel Wi-Fi, and mobile networks can all interfere with peer-to-peer connectivity.

What encrypted relay fallback means

A relay can forward encrypted traffic when a direct path is unavailable. The important distinction is whether the relay receives plaintext file contents or only encrypted payloads. Secure Pair is designed so the relay moves encrypted traffic rather than being the place that reads the file contents.

Trusted pairing matters too

Encryption protects the transfer, but you still need to know who you paired with. Secure Pair is built around explicit trusted contacts: pair once, save the contact, and reconnect later instead of generating a new anonymous upload link every time.

Secure Pair's transfer model

Important:Use encrypted transfer only with people you trust and for files you are allowed to send. Encryption does not make unsafe or unauthorized sharing acceptable.
