Local file encryption

Offline Encrypted File Vault for Windows

An offline encrypted vault keeps the protected copy of your files on your own Windows PC instead of requiring cloud storage. That does not remove the need for backups, strong passwords, or careful recovery planning—it simply changes where the encrypted data lives.

What to look for in a local encrypted vault

Local does not mean “backup not needed”

If the only copy of an important document is inside one encrypted vault on one SSD, hardware failure can still destroy it. Keep encrypted backups outside the primary machine and verify that you can reproduce every password, key file, or device requirement needed to unlock them.

Plaintext behavior should be explicit

Any vault that lets you open and edit normal files has to make plaintext available somewhere while those files are in use. The important question is whether the product explains that behavior clearly and removes its working plaintext when the vault is locked again.

How QuadCrypt approaches it

Before storing anything important:Create an encrypted backup and confirm you can unlock it using every password, key file, and device requirement you intend to depend on.
